Cog & Wheel Redux

Don't you love when you come back to a project months later, only to discover that you are even more excited about it now that you were initially? I recently went back to work on my Cog & Wheel quilt, after letting it sit for longer than I thought (really, last summer?!), and I'm so glad I did.

I'm not sure why I left it alone for so long. It easily might have been the fact that I needed to cut out nearly all of the background pieces by hand. It probably was the universe, then, telling me not to walk away from projects for such a long time when I came thisclose to running out my background fabric. Finally, my overflowing stash came to the rescue!

Anyway, I'm making progress on my Cog & Wheel again, but this time, I'm being more realistic about what I can finish each week. I only have to set my circles into the background pieces and then sew those together, but those curves can be a bit tricky--although not as hard as you might think. I'm still unsure as to how I'm going to quilt it, too, so I don't think there's any need to rush to the finish line.

In other news, it must officially be time for summer, as we cracked open the last precious jar of salsa I canned last fall.

sampler 2: quilt top

After ten Thursday nights at the workroom, I've finally finished my Sampler 2 quilt top. Sampler quilts are always a bit of a surprise to me: I'm never really sure what they'll look like when they're done.  When I started my sampler, I imagined something made of lots of earthy browns with hits of pink, yellow, and blue.  In the end, I have a very blue quilt. I still love it, though, and it's part of the wonder of sampler quilts.

But my quilt isn't done yet. I still have to baste and quilt this top, and I'm not sure what to use as my backing. In fact, I'm not even sure how I'm going to quilt it! Any suggestions?

More than that, I don't know what to do with my Thursday nights. The class was such a fun, weekly ritual that I don't really want to give it up!

tweet, tweet

I joined Twitter!  It was a move that surprised friends and family: I'm a very shy person, and Twitter is certainly not for the faint of heart.

But it's fun.  As I learn the etiquette of Twitter, I feel like I'm making new friends and stretching my comfort zone at the same time.  You can follow me here.

Even Gordon likes Twitter so far.  He's getting lots of love in the Twitter-verse, just like virtual belly-rubs!
